Cleaning Up and Flying Out


The Wisconsin Air National Guard airlifted Bad River tribal members who needed kidney dialysis treatment in Ashland. Collapsed bridges and washed-out roads turned what normally is a 15-minute drive into a 4 and a half hour ordeal!

Scores of homes were damaged by the flood and a dozen were totally destroyed. Volunteers from Bad River Social & Family Services, Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission, and tribal members who just wanted to help out battled unbearable heat and horrible conditions to help fellow tribal members stricken by the flood.
